A new forum game has been introduced by our Forum Game Master: Sir Simon Song!

It's called Corrupt the Wish.

Rules for the game:

1. Once a person corrupt your wish, dont get too desperate or furious. It is just a game.

2. Corrupt somebody's wish. Make sure it is related to the wish mentioned.

3. Begin your reply with "Wish Granted".

4. After the reply, add "But ...." to CORRUPT the wish.

5. Then, begin a new sentence with your own wish.

Here are some examples from the game:

Player A: I wish that I wont get disconnected whenever I play Dota.

Player B: Wish granted. But you cant even online. I wish I can have straight As in my PMR.

Player C: Wish granted. But your UEC will fail in flying colours. I wish ...

And the game goes on and on.

*Note: Please ruin the wish completely. Accept the corruption. It wont happen in reality. :)

Rest in Peace, Esther

1995-2009

Esther Lau, ex-member and clarinetist of RRSSB, passed away and went to the Lord on 14th October 2009, due to a brain tumour. A very brilliant and active junior in the band. She did very well in RRSSB, both music and marching. Everyone can tell that she's a very funny girl in the band, especially for clarinets.

She didnt stop loving the band, but her mom feared that she might be weaker if she undergo intense pressure, and insisted her to quit the band. But the reason she told us was: To concentrate on her studies.

It was weeks before the School's Sports Day last year. Practices were going on everyday. She often felt tired, but everyone complained that she has lost her discipline and concentration in the band. Sometimes, she was absent for practice, but everyone complained that she had lost her heart in the band.

In fact, behind all these things, she was suffering from a tumour, knowing that she cant be with us any longer. She was the happiest girl in the band, who always joke around and made faces to amuse everyone.

She quit the band on the 15th August 2008, when she participated in a formation for the very first and last time. And she gave us these words: RRSSB will be the best in my heart, forever.

R.I.P Esther, we will always remember you in our hearts. And you shall be the best of all.

全砂赛获最佳队长奖廉中铜乐队大跃进

（本报美里26日讯）于甫结束的全砂同乐队比赛中，廉律中学的熊熊铜乐队表现不俗，除了队长黄伟佳夺得全砂最佳队长奖外，也从去年的铜牌分数跃升至银牌奖，与历史悠久的古晋青草路政中、美中及美里圣约瑟国中铜乐队并驾齐驱，表现可圈可点。

古晋圣约瑟中学队是唯一获得金牌奖的队伍。其余的队伍则获铜牌或参赛书。

值得一提的是，廉中铜乐队分数比之前进步了20多分，是全砂进步最快的铜乐队。

全砂共有8支队伍参赛，而廉中是唯一的华文独中代表。
廉中队深获佳评

甫成立不上3年的廉中铜乐队一开始就充满信心将成为本区域最好的铜乐队。廉中队也是全砂唯一拥有英国铜乐队正规考试证书的铜乐队。所以该队伍的表现比往年进步一日千里，深获评审团的赞许与佳评。

廉中队的弱点在于大多数队员太年轻及人数与器材数量有待增加。廉中也肯定会不断地改善与寻求进步。

此外，廉中队没有雇用任何外国专业教练，唯有的4名年轻义务教练都是廉律理工学院或大学生。他们都有参与铜乐队训练与表演的经验：孙华惠来自廉中、黄伟贤来自美中、许立德与杨焕辉来自圣哥伦巴的铜乐队。他们的热忱与付出已反映在廉中队的迅速成长与优异表现。
廉中铜乐队创办人陈秀娥说，设立铜乐队是为了提升学生的学校生活素质，不是为了比赛或炫耀什么的。她鼓励廉中熊熊铜乐队以古晋圣约瑟队为榜样。该支队伍一次又一次获得全砂冠军，无疑是砂州最好的铜乐队。他们那一贯的谦虚与友善作风充份显现了冠军队的风度。
为了奖励全体队员与教练的努力与成就，廉中校方将举办一个慰劳宴，并颁发特别奖予全砂最佳队长黄伟佳。获得最佳队长奖是即将获得总冠军的前兆。陈秀娥呼吁队员们加倍努力，希望在2、3年内实现成为本区域最佳铜乐队的目标。

RRSSB RETURNS

RRSSB had first exposure to the battlefield in the year 2007 when it started to established with only 48 members in 2006. Within one year the band could achieve the unexpected result in the State level marching band competition. They achieved 4th in the competition which others 5 bands competing were veteran bands. Due to the financial problem this has set them unable to participate the following year competition which held outside Miri. This band’s members enthusiasm and insisting on perfection efforts have proposed again to the management to allowed them to participate the coming competition again in May this year. Budget has been collected through sponsors, schools and parents. Though, lots of obstacle few times fall the band’s decision, somehow, never distort the band to give up. Finally in 2009, the band has stand up and pour in a lot of effort and spirit in the band to be able to compete in the field. A tremendous improvement and quality in terms of sounds and drills have been enriched. Till then, the troops are ready and stay fit to put up a best show in the coming state level competition.

Mr Simon Teo, an athletic coach of Riam Road Secondary School, fell to his death at a slope at Canada Hill here at around 2.30 pm on 9th Dec 2008. He was leading a group of students along a jungle trekking track when the incident happened.The students quickly came out from the jungle to seek help for their coach.Firemen were at the scene to take Simon to the hospital a few minutes after they were contacted.However, Simon, 71, was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital, fire officials said.

Intermediate Band Ensemble Recital result has been released. Our band has achieved excellent result that passed with Distinction, with the score of 92 over 100!

We achieved 80 (Ensemble marks of 88) + 6 (stagecraft+presentation) + 6 (programme planning and notes) = 92 (over 100)

Congratulations to all the participants, managers and instructors. Further comments and examination reports will be published in school. Keep up and well done!

MR JOHN HUMPHRIES

John Humphries was born in Sheffield and read Music at Oxford University. Subsequently he attended the Guildhall School of Music where he studied the natural horn with Anthony Halstead. His editions of horn music have been performed by many of the world’s leading horn players including Barry Tuckwell, Michael Thompson, Eric Ruske, Anthony Halstead, Stephen Stirling, Javier Bonet and Frank Lloyd and his reconstructions of Mozart’s incomplete horn concerto movements have been praised for their “polish, authenticity, good scholarship and talent”.
He is also well known as an arranger: one of his arrangements appears on the legendary London Horn Sound CD whole others have been played world-wide by the Wallace Collection. His arrangements for young players appear on all the main examination syllabuses in UK. As a writer, he has contributed booklet notes for many CDs and programme notes for hundred of concerts. He has contributed articles and reviews for the Horn Players, the Horn Magazine Historic Brass Society Journal and Brass Bulletin. His book, the Early Horn, was described as “a superb book” “packed with usefulness.” “Rarely can anything have been written on the early history of the horn that is quite as accessible and flowing.
John has been a brass examiner for Guildhall since 1986, but since the merger with Trinity has retrained as generalist examiner and thoroughly enjoys the diversity of his new role. He lives in Ewell with his wife, son and daughter and his hobbies include collecting brass instruments and repairing them.

Dear all RRSSB members,

A warmest regards to u all. First of all I'd like to inform u guys that I'll be coming to RRSSB holiday intensive camp for 12, 13 march. This intensive camp i planned out is mainly for intensive training , physically n mentally prepare for the upcoming State level competition that will be probably held in Kuching around the season of June. There's still about 3months period for the band to work hard for this performance. I'd like to send my apology to those i've interfere /interrupt ur holiday time or may be u're goin for something but cos of this camp u have conveniently forgo the activities that u wanted to join to come for this camp. Well, i'm guaranteed to you that u'll going to learn alot of new stuff which will be prepared by me such as basic drill designed by Sir Tang CH, and some impressive short formation choreographed by me. Certainly, we'll also be doing music polish up as we'll going to get the 2new songs on 7/8 march the latest. But this intensive camp has rationed by me that we'll be doing marching to music 7:3 ..Meaning to say that we'll have to concerntrate much in our drill to music. Objective that i expected to get is to identify the standard of urs all so that i can have a level to design a drill formation that will suits u all.. and of cos i hope this camp will be making some joy and self satisfaction for u all regardless to any pressure that u'all have face and will be doing more n more great achievement and impression to others. Tht's all from me i guess if i've missed out something hopefully will be added by the commitees during the briefing before the training.. Lastly good luck and see u all soon. :) Cheers, Derek Jr.
